The hating game book review

Synopsis

Lucy Hutton has always been certain that the nice girl can get the corner office. She’s charming and accommodating and prides herself on being loved by everyone at Bexley & Gamin. Everyone except for coldly efficient, impeccably attired, physically intimidating Joshua Templeman. And the feeling is mutual.

Trapped in a shared office together 40 (OK, 50 or 60) hours a week, they’ve become entrenched in an addictive, ridiculous never-ending game of one-upmanship. There’s the Staring Game. The Mirror Game. The HR Game. Lucy can’t let Joshua beat her at anything—especially when a huge new promotion goes up for the taking.

If Lucy wins this game, she’ll be Joshua’s boss. If she loses, she’ll resign. So why is she suddenly having steamy dreams about Joshua, and dressing for work like she’s got a hot date? After a perfectly innocent elevator ride ends with an earth-shattering kiss, Lucy starts to wonder whether she’s got Joshua Templeman all wrong.

Maybe Lucy Hutton doesn’t hate Joshua Templeman. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.

Review

This book is about an office romance, which is quite similar to the Spanish love deception but in a better way. I just loved the Spanish love deception book but this book is amazingly written and well explained while that book was a little confusing. But this is a better version of that book.

All the characters have a well-developed and well-written story. It is an enemies-to-lovers trope, which is my favourite trope to read. This is one of my favourite books of all time.

Rating– ★★★★★

Such a great story with great characters, humour and romance. Read this book at least once. I definitely recommend this book to everyone.

Some of my favourite quotes from the book

  • Both love and hate are mirror versions of the same game—and you have to win. Why? Your heart and your ego. Trust me, I should know.
  • You’re always beautiful.
  • “I’d build you a shelter and find you a coconut, and then we’d pass the time.” “How?” My voice is barely more than a whisper. “Probably like this.” He presses his mouth to mine.
  • “I love you, Lucy Hutton. So much, you have no idea. Please be my best friend.” I’m so ridiculously in love. I decide to try it out loud. “I’m in love with Joshua Templeman.”

  1. Seems not pleasant to work all day with somebody you hate. But the book seems nice, I’ll certainly put it on my wish list.
